somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing created by Dr. Peter Levine, is a body based practiced designed to help clients create a better relationship with their bodies and themselves while deactivating trauma, fight, flight and freeze states held in the body. It is a process that gives clients more time and space to experience and trust the knowledge of their bodies and their histories.

Benefits include:

  • Decreased pain
  • Deeper connection to self
  • Reduced anxiety and depression
  • Reduced symptoms of trauma and PTSD
  • Improved digestion and sleep
  • Reduced tension and headaches
  • Increased feelings of comfort and peace

The pace of a somatic experiencing session is slow, and the client communicates with the therapist about what they are feeling, where they would like to be worked on, and what is arising for them. Clients learn to track sensations, images, memories, behaviors, and emotions during the session. These all provide important information and the client is encouraged to listen and be curious about what arises.

Lakshmi is currently in the Somatic Experiencing Professional Training program through Somatic Experiencing International.

“Somatic Experiencing offers a new and helpful perspective on trauma.
It views the human animal as a unique being endowed with an instinctual capacity to heal, as well as the instinctual spirit to harness that innate capacity.”
